Overview

An apartment tower is a type of building. Apartment Towers are visible on the map as a 4x4 block of green lowercase 'a's, with a single uppercase 'A' denoting the garage door leading to the interior. Their layout consists of four separate towers walled off by concrete walls and a metal garage door which is usually closed, preventing access unless the player has aquired a Jackhammer. The upper levels are accessible by four sets of staircases leading both up into the tower and down into the basement. While zombie-infested towers are most common, it is also possible for the player to encounter ones filled with NPCs, although currently (as of 0.D (Danny)), they are all Refugees with no quests or special dialogue. These towers can be a good source of NPC followers, however, as there are many refugees within.

Enemies

Apartment Towers spawn types of zombies commonly found in cities. While mainly normal zombies, zombie children and fat zombies, the player should also expect a few Spitters and Smokers, an assortment of Military and Police zombies, and the possibility of one or two Shocker Zombies and/or Brutes, however later in the game some of the basic zombies might have evolved into more advanced variants. In total, the player should expect upwards of sixty zombies scattered throughout the complex.

If playing with wander spawns on, it is likely that the majority of the zombies will congregate on the ground floor, posing considerable threat to an unprepared survivor. A small number will have jumped out the upper-floor windows and fallen down outside the complex, usually around five on each corner. It is recommended a survivor planning to scavenge the area clear these zombies first, as they are normally fairly isolated and in small numbers.

As the building is entirely concrete, judicious application of Explosives or Molotov is perfectly acceptable when dealing with the horde. A survivor confident in their melee skill may opt to place nailboard traps around the hole in the wall they used to enter, and lead zombies there to take them down one-by-one in the doorway, but beware of spitters turning the floor you're standing on to acid.

Loot

Apartment Towers spawn standard house loot, which includes Basic Chemicals (Gallon jugs of Bleach and Ammonia) various common foodstuffs, civilian Clothing,, Alcohol, and common Drugs such as Antibiotics or Codeine. Skill Books seem to be rather rare, the majority spawned being novels and magazines. Occasionally, apartments will generate with a room where a group of now-zombified soldiers made a last stand, which can be a small source of military-grade loot.

The basement level contains a plethora of machinery which can be Dissassembled for various industrial scrap, lockers next to beds which may contain various hardware, and many rooms containing washing machines and clothes.

The roof of each tower spawns random trash (Glass Jars, Empty Plastic Bottles, Newspapers) as well as two small rooms filled with more machinery and several lockers, which spawn Mechanic loot like small Engines and components.
