You can find a working computer console inside one which can trigger the bells of the church thus attracting unwanted attention usually. Good place to find glasses if you ever lose yours.

Full of benches (because New England is too poor for pews) and stained glass windows. These windows can't be seen through, and happily don't let zombies see you through them either, but let light in. They have no curtains -not like you can see through them anyway. Just remember smashing them won't yield a sheet or string-. The windows can neither be opened or closed. If anything wants to make an exit through them, the windows need to be removed. There are two braziers on either side of the altar, perfect for dragging outside to make a fire that won't spread. Break the benches for fuel! The computer monitor emits some cloudy light so night bugs can read and craft. Holy text not always provided. Slap a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Cataclysm on the altar and declare your own religion! May contain lockers filled with religious clothing and a toilet and sink.

On the positive side, dying near a church guarantees you'll be high on the list for burial when society recovers! -Warning. Not a guarantee.-
