PRM Faction: Ants

Giant Ants are a minor faction in C:DDA. The most prominent faction of native Earth life, the ants are immune to zombification and are perhaps the best chance for terrestrial life to survive the apocalypse.

In the core game, giant ants are known for their numbers, winding tunnel-works, and inability to smash through car hulls. Instead, they would destroy any exteriorly mounted items, such as solar panels. Giant Ants lacked variety or much distinction, and once a player could reliably pierce their armor they could farm the ants for infinite numbers of meat.

In PRM, giant ants gain specializations that allow them to pose a credible threat to the player, even though their car. Small, nimble ants with oversized mandibles can smash through car windows in short order, even jumping short distances to block an escape route. Queen ants are capable of alerting their soldiers with a shriek, bringing aid to their side. Young queens and their consorts take to the air every spring to terrorize the countryside.

Ants in the core game are an exploit to even early game players; the aim of these revisions are to make this untrue in the mod. Even a midgame character can experience difficulty against even a single kwarma warrior if they underestimate them. Jack ants will smash through cars, allowing the more numerous soldiers to do their work. Soldier ants car hear distress cries, and will home in on combat while the drones keep performing their tasks if possible. Queens can spray jets of fire, the most dangerous weapon in the game to the unearthly invaders, which grants the ants more longevity than they would be afforded otherwise.

The changes to the ants are justified as being those which both follow a line of logic and allow them to become a major faction with weaknesses and strengths. They are weak to the Mycus, but excel against the zombies since they have heavy armor but lack the power to pierce the heavier armor of the triffids.

Roster

While it would be fairly impossible to have an up-to-date listing of all monster specifications, the generals of each new and altered monster can be described with relative ease.

Evolutions

Ants in PRM are capable of a limited degree of evolution. This represents their growing adaptation to their new roles as predators of large lifeforms and their limited ability to mutate as an insect. The base ants have all see damage and armor increases. In addition, the soldier and drone ants may evolve into one or more kinds of ants.

-larvae ant --> "GROUP_ANT" (the regular spawns for an ant nest)
-Drone --> "upgraded drone" (~95%) OR "Scrib" (~6%)
-Soldier --> "upgraded soldier" (~80%) OR "Jack Ant" (~20%)
-Jack Ant --> upgraded Jack Ant
-Queen Ant --> upgaraded Queen Ant

Monster Summeries

The basics for each monster of the ant faction are listed below.

Larvae Ant

Variant Speed Damage Health Dodge Aggression Morale Physical Armor Special Armor Special Attacks Angered By Fear Of
Larval Ant 15 1d2 bash 15 Poor None Low Low High Acid Acid Vomit Hurt, Target Hurt Meat (placate)

Larval ants are almost unchanged from the base game, save that they gain the ability to vomit acidic juices over a threat or meal. And you could be both at the same time.

Drone Ant

Variant Speed Damage Health Dodge Aggression Morale Physical Armor Special Armor Special Attacks Angered By Fear Of
Base Drone 100 1d8 +2 bash, 5 cut 40 Poor None Moderate Moderate Bashing, High Cutting Low Fire Bite, Grab Faction Attacked, Faction Died, Hurt, Target Hurt
Upgraded Drone 105 1d6 +10 bash, 5 cut 65 Poor None Moderate Moderate Bashing, High Cutting Moderate Fire Bite, Grab Faction Attacked, Faction Died, Hurt, Target Hurt

Drone ants and their immediate upgrades are distinguishable by an added sentence in the description of the latter. They have recieved armor buffs and slight damage buffs. They are still relatively weak attackers, but in numbers they soak up damage for stronger ants and wear down stamina while still providing the colony with the labor it requires to feed itself. These ants are deaf.

Soldier Ant

Variant Speed Damage Health Dodge Aggression Morale Physical Armor Special Armor Special Attacks Angered By Fear Of
Base Soldier 100 1d10 +4 bash, 6 cut 80 Poor Low Average Moderate Bashing, High Cutting Low Fire Bite, Grab, Poison Faction Attacked, Faction Died, Hurt, Target Hurt, Fire
Upgraded Soldier 105 1d6 +10 bash, 6 cut 90 Poor Low Average Moderate Bashing, High Cutting Moderate Fire Bite, Grab, Poison Faction Attacked, Faction Died, Hurt, Target Hurt, Fire

Soldier ants and their immediate upgrades are distinguishable by an added sentence in the description of the latter. They have recieved armor, speed, and modest damage buffs, and they are the backbone of the ant defense. They are always on the lookout for threats, and may track intruders a short while before attacking. They can hear the Queen's cries, and will move towards the sounds of combat or the wailing of the scribs. Soldier ants are mildly venomous, and will sting if given a chance. They also provide the colony with the meat of those unfortunate enough to get caught by them.

Forager Ant

Variant Speed Damage Health Dodge Aggression Morale Physical Armor Special Armor Special Attacks Angered By Fear Of
Forager Ant 90 1d6 +2 bash, 4 cut 40 Poor Passive Moderate Moderate Bash, High Slash Moderate Fire Shriek, Shriek Stun Faction Died, Hurt

Forager ants are small defensive ants that are usually peaceful by default. They possess a higher dodge rating than other ants, and a the ability to wail so loud it can paralyze their target for a short time; as well as drawing in nearby soldier and jack ants. They are not threats by themselves because they lack high damage outputs, but as a support critter they are relatively effective.

Jack Ant

Variant Speed Damage Health Dodge Aggression Morale Physical Armor Special Armor Special Attacks Angered By Fear Of
Jack Ant 125 1d6 +5 bash, 6 cut, 1 acid 60 Poor Low Average Moderate Bash, High Cut Low Acid, Low Fire Leap 2 Tiles, Grab, Drag, Bite, Poison Faction Attacked, Faction Died, Hurt, Target Hurt, Close, Fire
Upgraded Jack Ant 125 2d6 +8 bash, 6 cut, 1 acid 75 Average Low Average High Bash, Massive Cut Moderate Acid, Low Fire Leap 3 Tiles, Grab, Drag, Bite, Poison Faction Attacked, Faction Died, Hurt, Target Hurt, Close, Fire

Jack ants are the only year-round ants who can smash. They are smaller than drones, and a bit smaller than soldiers, but their massive mandibles take up a full 40% of their bodies. The can jump short distances after a foe, can see better than most ants, and can hear. They are usually the first responders at the scene of a fight, and attmept to grab and drag a tresspasser back into other ants. Jack Ants are poisonous, and will sting at you.

Male Ant

Variant Speed Damage Health Dodge Aggression Morale Physical Armor Special Armor Special Attacks Angered By Fear Of
Male Ant 105 1d12 bash, 6 stab 80 Competent Moderate Below Average Moderate Moderate Acid, High Fire Close, Target Hurt, Fire Faction Died, Hurt, Faction Attacked (placate)

Male ants are a rare sight outside of springtime, where they can be seen jousting for dominance and attacking intruders to prove their fitness. They usually joust by thrusting their mandibles at one another, and those without the armor of an ant can be punctured. Male ants can fly, and a quite fast.

Young Queen Ants

Variant Speed Damage Health Dodge Aggression Morale Physical Armor Special Armor Special Attacks Angered By Fear Of
Young Queen Ant 90 2d4 +6 bash, 4 cut 90 Poor None Average High Moderate Acid, Fire Immune Shriek, Stun Shriek, Flamethrower, Egg Tend Faction Died, Hurt, Fire

Found in almost overwhelming numbers during the spring, YQAs are young, fertile ants that are just beginning their career as some of the most prolific breeders in the game. They are capable of raising an army of ants overnight from their stock of eggs, and while not initially aggressive have been known to fly around and spew fire from above before fleeing into the safety of a crowd. They are much larger than others ants, posess a wailing scream to cry for help, can fly, and are more mobile and better defended than other ants. They are very dangerous and often underestimated foes, but provide substantially more meat and chitin than a standard ant.

Queen Ants

Queen ants are much the same, save they are slightly more mobile than before and posess a fire attack and a wailing attack. There are typically 2 of them per hive, although some exceptions do exist.
