Split the page?

The page is a little outdated, to put it mildly. Adding more recipes would just make it even more cluttery.

I tried moving the recipes to a separate page (recipes list), but it breaks something in the template.

I suggest splitting the recipes to a separate page and using a better template (maybe a version of the one from item pages).

This page would still contain the basic information (top and bottom of the current one).

Sounds good to me. Using the item pages works best probably. And yeah, templates can be a bit fiddely. You could try some test pages in the sandbox. Then others can also hack in the code. --Soyweiser (talk) 02:35, 26 February 2014 (PST)

Page merged and about further tweaks

I've merged Whale's wiki page into the existing one. The old entry is now below. Feel free to redistribute the info, delete it or whatever.

The list now contains all the outdated info of the available crafted items. So it needs to be expanded with the new craftable items, and the existing ones should be revised and updated with the info from the latest DDA version.

I've created some redirections to the crafted items, to show how it's done. It's actually pretty easy, if tedious:

  • Click on the link (red color)
  • It'll display an empty page. Click on the Create tab
  • Write there the redirecting code, which works like this: #redirect [[<internal link>]]
  • Submit the page. It'll now display that it's now redirecting to the page you specified. Click there to make sure that the link is OK. Better yet, preview before submitting and try it there.

If you don't know where the correct wiki entry for an item is, just search for it, then link to the appropriate result. More info on how internal links work in MediaWiki here

All the crafting recipes are updated now with the info of the github version of the game as of now. I don't have the heart right now to go through all the item links to update them properly. That's something for someone else to do, I'm afraid. --Kenoxite (talk) 07:20, 1 April 2013 (PDT)

I've totally edited the tables format so it's exactly like the rest of the wiki. There's no more need to link items, as all of them have been removed. I doubt anybody would have updated them anyway. --Kenoxite (talk) 10:29, 8 April 2013 (PDT)

Breaks and shelter

Just reading the table (could benefit from a few breaks or at least repeating the header info at the bottom; it's kinda long to read in one shot) and it looks like a shelter kit can't be made without having a damaged one. Pretty confident I'm reading it wrong (as otherwise one couldn't make a shelter kit from scratch). Is there a missing OR there? KA101 (talk) 18:02, 13 April 2013 (PDT)

I agree, but repeating the TOC would only make the page longer. What would come handy is a "go back to top" link, so the user goes back to the TOC on top. I'll probably create a template for that, so it can be easily used in other pages that share this issue.

About the shelter, if you pay attention there's two entries. While both are named the same, the first one is the one used to create a shelter from scratch. The one below is used only to repair a damaged one. While I agree that's confusing, that's how they appear in crafting.cpp and therefore, the game. Try to post this as an issue in the github. I'm sure they'll fix it pretty soon, as it's obviously misleading. BTW, I'm not posting the direct link to the issues page because that would force the cats CAPTCHA every time this page is updated. Just check the url to the github in the forums and navigate from there. It's the tab named "Issues", then the green button named "New issue". You'll have to register an account first. --Kenoxite (talk) 02:34, 14 April 2013 (PDT)

Well, the breaks-by-section help a fair amount. Thanks for that & the clarification: easy to get lost in a long table.KA101 (talk) 13:42, 14 April 2013 (PDT)

Question for the botters

‎BMacZero, Teranos: Are you guys planning on edit and update this page using your little invisible machines?

I ask because I've been refraining myself from updating this page for a few weeks now, just in case you decide to chime in while I'm doing this whole thing manually.

Being this one of the most consulted pages (if not the most) I think we should prioritize it's updating, and organize ourselves one way or another.

Industry pages

I'm wondering if we should just remove them. Got the feeling this is another one of those things that is way to much effort to maintain, and well, nobody ever bothered to even finish the list. (And the whole 'industry' naming just shows some people play way to much DF). --Soyweiser (talk) 22:06, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Think perhaps the best way to fix the multiple of issues here is to do this, change the Tailoring Industry page into the Tailoring page. Move most of the content there, move most of the tailoring content from the skills page to tailoring. And use some noinclude magic and some transclusion to add the top of the tailoring page to the skills page. --Soyweiser (talk) 22:09, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
