Noted.

Gonna suggest that folks probably shouldn't carry a pile of gear when they go on the initial run: prevents scrounging better stuff, and the evac shelter makes a pretty good starter base unless something's Wrong with the area (ants, fungus, etc). So I'd do my initial recon light, and drop off any useful basement stuff on the first floor. KA101 (talk) 17:45, 29 August 2014 (PDT)

Go ahead

NotaZombie hasn't been around since August. Hexman was OK to edit this, and anyone else who wants to, have at it. KA101 (talk) 17:05, 21 January 2015 (PST)

Planned part 2

I know that the raid is missing from this guide but I plan do second day guide focusing in raiding the city and other things like: Choosing an attack style: Melee, Ranged, Throwing. (Spears are harder to do in very beginning so I'll skip this) show the pros and cons of each style. how to use each mode and know when to retreat and run. Teach the butchering/smashing actions on dead bodies and also to loot them. Warning about the filth penalty. Items of interest, for example: Fitting clothes, Books, knifes and tolls. Cutting heavy damaged clothes for rags. How to clean filth items. Teach player to do makeshifts bandages, and it's improved versions.

And this is what I have in mind for now. I know that I may be missing things, but I'll come with it in time.

Blood loss mechanic

Now not only infection is a poblem, bleeding is a big one too, i'm planning to add it on the guide soon, and maybe add some first aid technique there, it's really important now.

Perhaps best to create a new bloodloss page (it could already be on the wiki somewhere, on a different name, this is just an example) and add it to the effects pages, and then just link to that, or give a small description with a 'for more info check bloodloss' as I assume others would also want to know about bloodloss and we can't expect people to just read this specific guide page --Soyweiser (talk) 06:40, 25 August 2020 (MDT)
Bleeding is prob a better place, will make a redirect from bloodloss to bleeding. --Soyweiser (talk) 06:44, 25 August 2020 (MDT)

Primitive tools rework

Now the starting tools seens to be harder to craft without raiding, I'll have to plan a new way to get access to them without going to an early raid.

Major rework

I'm already doing a new re-run of this tutorial guide, like i told up there, the things changed a lot with the initial tools so I've planned a new possible route. I've found that breaking the solar panel, the player can build the makeshift hammer, still there's no other way to get a early cutting tool, so survivor profession is the main choice for now. expect a new guide for 0.F soon.

More changes in dev

Starting items and requiried tools changed in dev version, now the things need to be changed again to work with this new set.

Stable release is out (There's new thing to mention).

i have been inactive from adding things for this tutorial, but still I'm glad from the changes made here, now lets get to the point.

Shelter seems buffed since the last time i played evac shelter start, there's way too much loot now, these are batteries, lighters, flashlights, more first aid kits and even canned foods (canned food spawn rate seems to be very low, and sometimes it wont even appear).

That changes some things like: You're not forced anymore to start with survivor, while it's recommended, cutting tool is available in first aid kits you're 100% sure to find one in every run, and lighters are available too rendering matchbook not really essential. Lights sources are not limited to only terminal and fire, since you can use flashlights and "candles" (candles has the same low rate of canned food, it wont spawn always) we just need to mention that flashlights wont last long.

My note about a thing: Sleep deprivation and Weariness are completely different things even if both can be effective recovered by sleeping, sleep deprivation (Very tired and higher) drop your stats badly, weariness slow down the speed that you can do task including moving if you're extreme tired, this is a thing that i think that should be changed. Also doing this tutorial yourself proves that when it's getting late the chance of the player fells the effects of the weariness in doing tasks are high, most if you're just starting too. Otherwise everything else should be kept as it is.

Very needed changes in philosophy, and a minor problem I spotted

So I just started CDDA a few days ago, and I tried using this tutorial, and this is my main criticism:

Throughout the tutorial actions are taken without explanations as to why, and only later are revealed as to their purpose. A balance must be kept between over-informing, and under-informing in a tutorial, while you do not need to go into the intricacies of the crafting system, and the philosophy behind the materials in the recipe, you do need to explain why, for example, I'm smashing a solar panel, beyond just, "It has something that's useful to you". Explain to me what the drops of the solar panel are, explain to me what I'm looking for, explain to me why I'm looking for those.

The tutorial could be easily improved by starting off with a checklist showing the things we need at the start, and then explaining how what we're doing relates to that checklist exactly. The bathroom part is a good example of what the tutorial should look like, it gives a list of the things we can find in the bathroom, it explains the uses of those different things, even if they aren't integral to the tutorial's path through the game, and then tells you how those uses align with our goals for survival; that is EXACTLY what this whole tutorial should look like.

Also in other news: The cudgel can no longer be expected as craftable by every variation of player within the given starting parameters, and a little maintenance could be useful.

I realize this is a very small community, and to whoever is trying their best to keep the wiki afloat, I salute you. None of this is intended as anything beyond constructive criticism. Also I'm extremely sorry if I used this section wrong, I just wanted to voice a complaint I saw as very important, if you do have a problem with it's location, formatting, etc. I would be more than happy to remove it and make the suggested changes.
